Local election for interim purpose: DPM Singh

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Prakash Man Singh , has said the local body elections should be held for interim purpose.
Inaugurating the first council of Panchkhal Municipality here on Tuesday, DPM Singh said new provisions would be made after the new constitution, but for now, local body election is essential for interim purpose.
For the lack of people's representatives, development activities have been obstructed in local level, he said, adding that the budget has tried to address the demands for physical infrastructures for the new municipalities.
According to the DPM, the government was planning to announce more municipalities. However, constitution writing is the focus, he added.
On the occasion, Constituent assembly member Bidur Sapkota and Kanchan Chandra Bade have urged the government to develop Panchkhal of Kavre as a centre of agricultural products.
The Council has approved the income and expenditure details of Rs 46.04 million for the municipality.
